March Reads - Rapid Fire
The Long Night by Christian White
White's vivid characters and settings have inspired me this month. I've used this as an inspiration to take a character-focused look through my manuscript, rounding out the players to make their choices and motivations feel more authentic.
My favourite @cwhite_author novel is still The Wife and The Widow, but The Long Night comes in a close second.
The Coffee Shop Detectives by Louise Mumford
My mum and I listened to The Coffee Shop Detectives by @louisemumfordauthor during a long drive across rural Victoria. The country roads, rolling hills and tiny towns meant a cosy mystery was exactly the right companion.
Excellent narration by Alison Steadman, a really enjoyable listen for a rainy, country drive.
Clown Town by Mick Herron
Mick Herron’s world is always a little grimy, a little sharp, and full of misfits written with such precision that even their worst decisions feel painfully human.
Clown Town continues that tradition — vivid, visceral, and darkly funny in the way only Slough House can be.
If you’ve watched the TV series, you’ll recognise the tone immediately: bureaucratic rot, bruised loyalty, and humour that cuts close to the bone.
A brilliant, biting addition to the series.
